A beautiful, high-quality 'miniature' mineral specimen of Mimetite Var. Campylite crystals on a Quartz matrix from the historic Dry Gill Mine within the world renound Caldbeck Fells Region of Cumbria, England, UK.
The Campylite crystals are exceptionally fine for the species, which is what made this locality so famous. They feature Barrel-shaped terminations and a vivid orange colouration that is reminiscent of little 'pumpkins'. black Manganese oxides and the white Quartz matrix provide a pleasing contrast.
Dry Gill Mine was operational during the 19th century with little commercial success. It was later abandoned but a collecting period during the 1970's brought many fine Campylite specimens to market.
This specimen comes with 3 old labels from the 'Ross Whittaker Collection', Andyitec Minerals' and 'Gwynant Valley Minerals'.
