A rare high-quality 'small-cabinet' mineral specimen from Irelands Mourne Mountains that features a conglomeration of Topaz, Smoky Quartz, Muscovite Mica & Orthoclase Feldspar in matrix from the famous 'Diamond Rocks' locality, Mourne Mountains, County Down, Northern Ireland, UK.
Diamond Rocks is named for the small, glittering crystals found here that form in 'miarolitic cavities' inside tertiary-age Granite and this specimen is not one that bucks that trend. Pretty much every crystal on the specimen is perfect, and amongst the scattering of Mica Llaminae crystals & blocky, cream-coloured Orthoclase crystals, lustrous colourless Topaz and dark Brown Smoky Quartz crystals shimmer with a gem transparency. The main feature is a perfect Topaz crystal rising from the central vug, flanked by 2 gem Smoky Quartz crystals.
The specimen comes with an old 'Steetley Minerals' display label.
