Mining History

Britain boasts a remarkable mining heritage spanning over 4,000 years. sites like the Great Orme in Wales is home to ancient bronze age copper mines whilst Scotland is home to lead deposits such as that of the Leadhills and Wanlockhead. even the Romans mining Lead on the isles 2 millennia ago. in the past, Cornwall and Devon were world-renowned for Tin and Copper, while the Northern Pennines yielded exceptional Fluorite, Galena, especially the world-famous Weardale valley where historic mines such as Boltsburn Mine, Rogerley Mine and Frazer's Hush Mine reside. The Caldbecks Fells area of the stunning Lake District National Park is home to a huge variety of mineral species and the Derbyshire Orefield boasts huge Lead, Fluorspar and calcite deposits. It's here where the home of Blue John Fluorite is... the oldest variety of Fluorite that's found nowhere else in the world.
